The View on The Hudson

When it comes to party favors for your big day, you want them to turn out nice. In part 1 of our wedding favors series, we discussed 6 tips for amazing favors on a budget.

However, even when you find the right price for favors, there are sometimes things that can go wrong. You can prevent some of these problems, though, by planning ahead. Here are 5 tips for stress-free wedding favors.

1. BE CAREFUL IF YOUR WEDDING FAVORS CAN ‘MELT.’

Many brides choose to have things like chocolates or candies that can easily melt if they get too warm. If your favors melt, they aren’t going to look as nice, and may also make a mess. So keep this in mind, especially if you’re having a wedding during summer when the temperature may be higher.

If the type of favors you choose could be in danger of melting, make sure you have a cool place you can store them after purchasing them, until your wedding day. You wouldn’t want to leave them in a hot car, in the sun outside, or in a home or building that’s too warm and doesn’t have air conditioning.

2. IF YOU’RE PUTTING TOGETHER THE FAVORS YOURSELF, ASK FOR HELP.

Doing all of your favors yourself can be stressful, especially if you have a large number of guests! Consider asking your fiance, family, or friends for assistance in putting these together.

3. READ REVIEWS AND CHECK THE QUALITY BEFORE PURCHASING FAVORS OR THE MATERIALS FOR THEM.

If you’re buying pre-made favors, or special ordering materials for them, you’ll want to make sure you purchase these from a company that’s reliable and offers good quality. Ask around and check reviews online. If people complain about things such as not getting the amount of favors they ordered, or the favors falling apart, you may want to find someplace else to get them from.

When it comes to candy or food items, you will want to taste them in advance, if possible. Some types of packaged candy, chocolate, or other food items really don’t taste that great, and you want your guests to enjoy them.

4. CONSIDER HAVING YOUR GUESTS PUT TOGETHER THEIR OWN WEDDING FAVORS.

Some couples have opted for a station at the reception for guests to fill their own favors. They have bags or boxes for guests to take, and then they give them the option of filling these with a few different types of candy, cookies, popcorn, or other tasty treats.

This saves you the time of making the favors yourself- all you have to do is set out the supplies in a way that looks nice. Guests are usually pretty happy with this too, as people like to choose between a few different options, so it’s a win-win.

5. THINK ABOUT THE GUESTS YOU’RE INVITING.

Another thing you’ll want to take into consideration is the type of guests that will be at your wedding. If you’re going to have a lot of kids there, you may want to choose favors that they’ll enjoy too, such as candy or bubbles.

On the other hand, there may be individuals you’re inviting that have food allergies. Or some guests may be sensitive to certain smells, which you should keep in mind if you wanted to have something scented, like candles. In either case you may want to consider using favors that everyone can have, or simply provide another option for the specific guests who may have allergies or sensitivities, and let them know to stay away from something that may bother them. (You don’t want to worry about someone having a reaction to a chocolate truffle in their favor box, because they didn’t know it had peanut butter in it.)

So those are 5 tips for stress-free wedding favors. By carefully choosing what favors to use, thinking about the needs of your guests, and asking for help if you need it, you can minimize stress when it comes to this aspect of your wedding.
